Celebrating 12 Years of Australian-Made Kids Woodwork Kits

This year, Built By Kidz Activities proudly celebrates 12 years of inspiring creativity, confidence, and hands-on learning through kids’ woodworking.

As a small Australian family business, we are incredibly proud that every one of our woodworking activities is designed, crafted, and made by us right here in Australia.

Our journey began with a simple idea. My husband, a licensed builder, noticed there was very little available to introduce children to real carpentry and woodworking in a safe and engaging way. After testing our first activities with our three daughters, we knew we had created something truly special. That’s when I, Josephine, took a leap of faith and turned our dream into reality.

Growing Beyond Birthday Parties

What started as a mobile kids’ birthday party service soon grew into woodworking incursions for primary schools and vacation care centres, where thousands of children enjoyed learning practical skills through fun, hands-on experiences.

Adapting Through the Challenges

Then COVID changed everything. Overnight, birthdays and face-to-face classes came to a halt. Like many small businesses, we faced one of our biggest challenges. But instead of giving up, we adapted.

From that challenge came our DIY Woodwork Kits—allowing families to enjoy the Built By Kidz experience from home. What began as a way to survive quickly became an opportunity to reach children not just in Sydney, but across Australia.

Today, our online store continues to grow, offering our Australian-made woodworking kits alongside carefully selected activities for vacation care providers, schools, educators, and families.

What we offer is about so much more than woodworking.

We create opportunities for parents and children to spend quality time together, building memories while building something with their own hands. We help children develop confidence, creativity, problem-solving skills, and a sense of achievement. We support educators and vacation care providers with engaging, hands-on learning experiences that children genuinely love.
